Art & Toys: The Collection of Selim Varol
Collectors Room Berlin will be presenting one of the largest collections of figurines/toys and street art in Europe, if not the world – collected over the last 20 and more years by Selim Varol. The exhibition is incredibly large and it includes a total of 3,000 works by more than 200 artists and designers from over 20 countries. Works from KAWS, Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Futura, Jose Parla and tons more will be on display. We have a huge recap of the event showing you what’s on display in case you can’t make it out to see it in person.
The volume of works from our favorite artists present in this exhibition is simply incredible. Collecting toys and art for the last 20 years already, the exhibition shows many pieces that we have shown here before, but also many that were produced before our site existed. We are not sure, there has ever been an exhibition giving such a global view on the toy and street art universe, making it a very unique experience.
The exhibition opens its doors officially tomorrow at 3pm and the opening will be accompanied until 10pm with DJs.

Gordons Bay House by Luigi Rosselli Architects
This Gordons Bay House
Created by Luigi Rosselli Architects, this Sydney, Australia hillside
abode has features a great overall design. The use of concrete is
probably the first thing that sticks out, as well as the overhangs
adding a level of complexity. The house also sits on a hill overlooking
the nearby bay presenting a great view to wake up to every day. Other
highlights for us include the fireplace, pool and the tiling in the
restroom.

Love & Hate
Love & Hate” by Nifer Fahrion of NifNaks, three full scale weapons rendered in wool felt: a fragmentation grenade, brass knuckles, and a Glock handgun, Each piece was painstakingly hand made from Merino wool, with no foam or wire structures underneath.
"I spent hours upon hours stabbing the wool, watching as it compacted and distorted. Then I added more wool, continuing to stab and watch it form in unpredictable ways, and continued again… With such an intense focus with the intention of recreating these weapons realistically, I became intimately familiar with the objects. I was fully present in the experience of observing the subject of my gaze. Thus, these sculptures become only the documentation of my mindful meditation on them. "

LAQ x Darcel by Craig Redman Furniture Collection
“The meeting of the founders of LAQ, Raphaël and Pascal, with Craig Redman, gave birth to a Darcel shown in 3D, a product of the encounter of contemporary culture and ancient techniques. Made of resin, wood and painted metal, mother-of-pearl and eggshell, this high definition version of Darcel, coming from a psychedelic universe, hip and disillusioned, also offers hidden storage in its eye, like the secretive stately furniture of the seventeenth century. A radical confrontation of periods, styles and ideas!”

Mitsuhiro Okamoto “Batta Mon” Sculptures

On view through November 27, 2010 at Osaka’s CAS, Mitsuhiro Okamoto’s “Batta Mon” sculptures raise questions about the relationship between authenticity and imitation. The locust shaped works are produced from fake designer bags – with logos prominent – and the name plays off of the slang term for knock off.
Okamoto’s work was previously displayed at the Kobe Fashion Museum, but removed after Louis Vuitton protested pieces containing their brand logo. (via DB).
More “Batta Mon” can be seen here.
